Thinking

I don't know who wrote this piece but I like it.

____________________________________________________________________

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and
then -- just to loosen up. Inevitably, though, one thought led to
another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.

I began to think alone -- "to relax," I told myself -- but I knew it
wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and
finally I was thinking all the time.

That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I turned off
the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night
at her mother's.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't
mix, but I couldn't help myself. I began to avoid friends at
lunchtime so I could read Thoreau, Muir, Confucius and Kafka. I would
return to the office dazed and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing
here?"

One day the boss called me in. He said, "Listen, I like you, and it
hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you
don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job."

This gave me a lot to think about. I came home early after my
conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking..."
"I know you've been thinking," she said, "and I want a divorce!"

"But honey, surely it's not that serious." "It is serious," she said,
lower lip aquiver. "You think as much as college professors and
college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we
won't have any money!"

"That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently. She exploded in tears
of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional
drama.

"I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door. I
headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche. I roared into the
parking lot with Rush Limbaugh on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors. They
didn't open. The library was closed.

To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that
night. Leaning on the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra , a
poster caught my eye, "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?"
it asked.

You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinkers
Anonymous poster. This is why I am what I am today: a recovering
thinker.

I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational
video; last week it was "Porky's." Then we share experiences about how
we avoided thinking since the last meeting.

I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just
seemed...easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking. I think the
road to recovery is nearly complete for me.

Today I took the final step... I joined the Democratic Party.

Al Gore Is Right About Global Warming...

...Just not in the way he thinks it's going to happen. It will happen according to his faith's tradition, he just has his understanding of his faith's tradition all screwed up. Do you remember this quote for Al Gore during the second Presidential Debate in 2000?:

"And I'm a grandfather now. I want to be able to tell my grandson, when I'm in my later years, that I didn't turn away from the evidence that showed that we were doing some serious harm. In my faith tradition, it is written in the book of Matthew, 'Where your heart is, there's your treasure also.' And I believe that we ought to recognize the value to our children and grandchildren of taking steps that preserve the environment in a way that's good for them. [emphais mine]"

Anyone with even a Sunday School understanding of what Jesus was saying knows that it has nothing to do with "saving the environment". Over the years I've seen people try to attribute some modern day ideological attributes to Jesus that just don't fit. I can't remember who it was, but when I was in college I read an article where the author was insisting that Jesus was a feminist. That, of course, is one heck of stretch. Al Gore's twisting of Matthew 6:21 is no different. Jesus was not an environmentalist. His mission here was of far more importance than that. He didn't come here to save the earth. He came for our salvation and to straighten us out on who God is and what he really expects from us apart from man made legalistic religion. He didn't come here to start Greepeace.

Here is a piece written by my father that I think is a good response to Al Gore and his "Global Warming" theory:

I SELDOM, IF EVER, AGREE WITH ANYTHING THAT COMES FROM HOLLYWOOD!

It’s rare for me to ever find anything coming out of Hollywood that I’m in agreement with even in the slightest way. But now I am somewhat shocked to find quite a bit of agreement between myself and Hollywood’s latest concerns regarding “Global Warming”. At first I tried to blow them off because the whole thing seemed to me to be completely “out in left field” and altogether too sensational for me to get my mind around their views. What with their favorite politician Al Gore being the leading spokesman for Global Warming, pundits and the swift involvement these people have in joining in the fight to stop the spread of this apparent menace. I was not impressed and of course very skeptical. It seemed to me that they were convinced that this thing was going to destroy all life on the earth and that all the people now living on earth were in real danger - Now!

I asked myself “What if this thing they are presenting does in fact finally happen? Why, it would take at least a million years or more, so why should any reasonable man be worried about this kind of thing now?”

I considered what I was hearing from both sides of the “so-called” scientists who were apparently not finding any meaningful agreement as to if “Global Warming” really has started, whether it is in fact possible or not, and the list of points of argument goes on and on. Then it hit me square in the face. I’m a “red-necked” bible-believing Christian who has spent the last 35 years studying the bible on a daily basis and have read all the prophesies given in several books of the bible many, many times. These prophecies were given some two thousand (or more) years ago by prophets and disciples of Jesus Christ! Try reading the second book of Peter – chapter 2; and please understand the fact that Peter was in fact a fisherman by trade who obviously knew nothing at all about “splitting atoms” but describes the complete and total destruction of not only the earth but the entire universe in what appears to be a nuclear explosion of unbelievable magnitude. Read the book of Revelations especially, the first verse of chapter 21, and see what message you get from this fantastic book from the bible.

It occurs to me now that Hollywood is really just preaching their belief that a “Judgment Day” is on its way and that if we don’t change our ways we will all perish because of what we’ve done and because of the fact that we have chosen not to believe a truth nor have we repented. WHAT A CONCEPT!!!! Now I get it.

Al Gore, can you say “Global Meltdown”?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our nation has set aside this time of the year to think about what we are thankful for in our lives. Of course, we should do this every day. Remembering to count your blessings always provides a balance to put your life in perspective, because it is the problems and negative things that are usually on people's minds particularily, when they are in the thick of things.

Here are some of the things that I am thankful for (in no particular order):

* I am thankful that I was born in a country that honors liberty and provides me the opportunity to make the most out of my life and succeed.

* I am thankful for the men of women who are making the sacrifices necessary to keep us safe from the murderous Islamic Extremist thugs who want to kill every one of us at the worse, or, at least, take away our freedoms and quality of life and replace it with slavery and forced conversion to their religion.

* I am especially thankful for those in our military who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in this war and all wars past. There are no words to adequately express my gratitude for them so I offer to them my utmost respect and honor.

* I am thankful for the wonderful parents I have who made the sacrifices for me and my brother and sister and who are the reason for anything decent and respectable in me today.

* Along with my parents, I am thankful for my grandparents, relatives, and ancestors who passed down to me a good, strong Christian foundation to build my life on.

* I am thankful for my brother and sister both of whom I am very proud of.

* I am thankful for my beautiful, wonderful wife. She has been a wonderful blessing these last 15, going on 16 years. She is an example of a tremendous gift that God has given me that I don't really deserve.

* I am thankful for my three children. I can not imagine a life without them or my wife. My have brought me much joy watching them grow up.

* I am thankful for the friends that have been in my life. I've been fortunate to have good friends of top notch character and that I am proud to know.

* I am thankful for God's gift of salvation in offering up his Son, Jesus, to die in my place for my sins.

* I am thankful that Jesus, of his own free will, was willing to suffer and die for my sins so that I can have an eternal relationship with God and Him. This is another example of a wonderful gift that God has given me that I do not deserve.

What are you thankful for?

Minorities

We need to show more sympathy for these people.
* They travel miles in the heat.
* They risk their lives crossing a border.
* They don't get paid enough wages.
* They do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do.
* They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language.
* They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day every day.

I'm not talking about illegal Mexicans;
I'm talking about our troops!
Doesn't it seem strange that many Democrats and Republicans are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegal aliens [undocumented immigrants for you liberals], but don't support our troops and are now threatening to defund them?

I don't take any credit in being the author of this brilliant piece. It is circulating around the Internet anonymously.

Happy Veteran's Day

I want to express my deep respect and admiration for all of the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. Freedom isn't free and thanks to our veterans we are still a free country. To those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, you have my deepest appreciation for your bravery on the battlefield. You are not now, nor will you ever be forgotten. So, veterans from the past and those still serving I salute you with a crisp salute, standing at attention!
