I have no idea as to who the original author of this piece is but, I think that is worth posting here. I'm posting this for two reasons. First, it does a really job of exposing the actual foolishness and weakness of the liberal viewpoint. Secondly, this does a good job of exposing the foolishness of the liberal viewpoint. ; )

The answer can be found by posing the following question:
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.
You are carrying a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot.
You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

Liberal's Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.

oh. ha. ha. ha.
you know, if, as this says, you are being attacked by a terrorist with a giant knife, you're gonna kill him. personally i'm kind of a pacifist, and if i could just disarm and disable him, i would and turn him over to someone else. but eliminating that from the scenario, i'd shoot.
oh, and i personally believe in pistols for self defense, but no semi-automatic weapons that you see on the streets.
anyway, i'm gonna stop being a whiny liberal and say:

Why would you bless the "redneck" option of this piece?

The "Conservative" option of this is certainly more reserved, and right for me.

sorry for jumping the other discussion. i got Spore and it pretty much took away all extra time i had for rational thought. either way, we had pretty much flown off topic by then, and we were just repeating the same points worded differently. that said, i'll post my final thoughts there.

How were we off topic? How were we reapeating the same points worded differently? I was responding to your points. There was no re-wording of my position at all.

Why would the redneck section of the piece be respectable? The conservative response was respectable. The red neck solution was over the top. Unless, of course, you are being sarcastic....

Seriously, most of the anti-gun, pacifist Left have NO idea what they are talking about. They rant and rave about the evils of so-called "semi-automatic" weapons. Do they even know what that term means. Do you realize that a great many pistols and rifles owned for personal use and self-protection are semi-automatic? Or, are they being purposely disingenuous, know that banning semi-automatic weapons will effectively disarm a large portion of the law-abiding, gun-owning citizenry.
Let's define our terms:
A semi-automatic, or self-loading firearm is a gun that requires only a trigger pull for each round that is fired, unlike a single-action revolver, a pump-action firearm, a bolt-action firearm, or a lever-action firearm, which require the shooter to manually chamber each successive round. For example, to fire ten rounds in a semi-automatic firearm, the trigger would need to be pulled ten times (once for each round fired), in contrast to a fully automatic firearm, which can continue to fire as long as the trigger is held or until it runs out of ammunition.
I'm all for banning full-auto weapons, with an exception for military & special law-enforcement units. I am absolutely opposed to banning true semi-automatics.
