Air America & Main-Stream America

The death of the great liberal hope of talk radio: Air America, by bankruptcy is just around the corner, that is, according to Think Progress in an article you can find here.

The article then goes on to point out that even if Air America folds, progressive radio (aka liberal/leftist radio) will be just fine and cites two liberal radio talk hosts: Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller who operate independent of Air America. The article also points to Clear Channel’s partnership with the Center For American Progress and MSS Inc. in a nation-wide search for the next Progressive Talk Radio Star.

Good luck.

Are there liberal talk radio hosts out there besides what Air America had to offer? I’m sure there are. Are they really coming anywhere near their conservative talk radio host counterparts, such as: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Mark Levin, Michael Savage, Glen Beck etc. in ratings and popularity? No. Not even close.

The impending demise of Air America and the lack of theirs, as well as other liberal talk radio hosts’ ability to compete ratings-wise with the overwhelming number of listeners that conservative talk radio hosts enjoy, illustrates the point that the liberal viewpoint doesn’t reflect main-stream America at all. In fact it ain’t even close.

Whose the big fat idiot now Al Franken?

The liberal message is simply unable to compete in the market place of ideas. It only thrives in situations where it is the only viewpoint in town. This explains the whining from the left about the success of Fox News and conservative talk radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh.

The left had a sweet deal going on until people like Rush Limbaugh and Rupert Murdock came along. The liberals pine for the days when the only media was ABC, CBS, NBC, PBN & NPR. Back then it was the liberal viewpoint and pretty much only the liberal slant 24/7, around the clock. Oh sure, every once in a while they might display some conservative on the show, but he was never allowed to be effective in any real way. The pseudo-conservative was there to be the example of the misguided that the liberal viewpoint was there to trump.

The Think Progressive article tries to downplay Air America’s demise thusly:

“The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America.”

But, this is just a weak attempt to continue with the false belief that, eventually main-stream America will catch on.

Yes. Air America did succeed in creating the progressive radio format, which never existed before, (I beg to differ, have they forgotten NPR?). But that liberal radio format, after having been pioneered, was stood up only to fail.

The liberals just don’t get it. They live in their elitist’ cocktail parties where they arrogantly believe that they are the intellectuals. They represent the views and goals of main-stream America. They lampoon the conservatives and the Religious Right as ignorant, bigots who are only a small misguided minority who don’t represent the rest of America.

And yet, the ratings prove them dead wrong.

To the contrary, main-stream America isn’t interested in their arrogant, anti-American, pro-UN, appeasement messages.

The amusing thing is that the left just doesn’t get it. They probably just think that main-stream America isn’t as enlightened as they are and if they will just keep trying, someday they will win the rest of America over to their “intellectual” viewpoints.

The day that they succeed, America will be in big trouble.

You know, I think it would be really cool though, if we could see a televised, or hear on the radio, a debate between Air America’s Randi Rhodes and conservative author and columnist, Ann Coulter. I bet Ann would mop the debate floor with Randi.

I would pay to see that.
