Liberals Are For Free Speech & Tolerance? Yeah Right!

In an article from a liberal think tank found here, the liberals are all up in arms about the conservative dominance of talk radio. Here are some quotes from that article:

"The new report — entitled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” — raises serious questions about whether the companies licensed to broadcast over the public radio airwaves are serving the listening needs of all Americans."

It's funny that the liberals don't feel the same way about the television news channels and newspapers. They had a monopoly on most all of these until, their arch-nemesis Fox News entered the scene. They have been whining about the evils of Fox News ever since. They are continually taking a back seat to Fox News in ratings and they are beside themselves over it. You mean that the average American viewer is not enamored with their all liberal coverage?
How could that be?

"Our conclusion is that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management."

No. The gap between conservative and progressive (aka liberal) talk radio is occuring because the listeners have made their choice. That liberals arrogantly think that they know what is best for America is a given. What surprises and irritates them is that all Americans don't agree with them and their lofty goals for America.

"Ultimately, these results suggest that increasing ownership diversity, both in terms of the race/ethnicity and gender of owners, as well as the number of independent local owners, will lead to more diverse programming, more choices for listeners, and more owners who are responsive to their local communities and serve the public interest."

Yeah, just like they were concerned about the owners of the television news channels and newspapers owners who were forsaking diversity for the liberal agenda. As for the radio station owners being more responsive to their local communities' interests - apparently they are. The success of conservative talk radio reflects this. The local communities wouldn't listen if they weren't interested in the first place. Conservative Talk Radio is a hit for a reason. Just like liberal Talk Radio (like Air America) was a flop for a reason.

"Along with other ideas, the report recommends that national radio ownership not be allowed to exceed 5 percent of the total number of AM and FM broadcast stations, and local ownership should not exceed more than 10 percent of the total commercial radio stations in a given market. "

Where are the percentages limiting liberal television news channels, liberal newspapers and liberal Talk Radio stations, (whoops. I forgot that they don't have any)?

Liberal Democrat party Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton and liberal Senator Barbara Boxer have chimed into this Democrat attempt at limiting Free Speech as well. You can view their ad here.

This is just another example of liberals and their false claims of the importance of freedom of speech and tolerance.

Apparently, the only speech liberals tolerate is liberal speech. They can't stand the presence of any speech that dissents from their viewpoint. Dissent against the Bush Administration is "patriotic". Dissent against the liberal view point is not to be tolerated. In fact, it is to be censured.

Likewise, liberals claim to be tolerant. Hell, to listen to them, they have the corner of the market on tolerance. But, the truth is, their tolerance is only for those who share their viewpoint. Any viewpoint opposed to theirs in not to be tolerated.

That's why it is imperative that they promptly squash any conservative content in the media. After all, the only hope that the liberals have for their cause, is if the only thing being broadcast in the television and radio airwaves, and in the newspapers is the liberal agenda.

I suppose the blogosphere is going to be their next target.

After all, Pravda (American liberal style) should be the only option out there available to American listeners and viewers.

It's the liberal's only hope.

It is censorship and the alleged defenders of freedom on the left will be silent in support. I posted on the same topic and it is censorship and sickens me. Of course Boxer and Clinton deny Inhofe's accusation.

"Liberal think tank." There's an oxymoron if I ever saw one.
